Distinctive Spirits Portfolio Will Include Rebellion Bourbon and Award-Winning Brinley Shipwreck Rum
Opici Wines, a leading importer and producer of fine wines from around the world, has announced the launch of its new spirits division: Market Street Spirits. Named for the street on which Opici’s first office was located in Paterson, NJ in 1913, Market Street Spirits pays homage to the company’s origins. The portfolio will include a selection of handcrafted, premium spirits from around the world.
“It’s an exciting time for the spirits category, especially with the recent boom of craft spirits, and we are thrilled to jump in to this area,” said Don Opici, Managing Director of Opici Wines. “Our unique, handcrafted spirits brands perfectly complement our exceptional wine portfolio.”
Market Street Spirits informally launched in 2013 with the introduction of Rebellion Bourbon. Created by the Opici family, Rebellion Bourbon is a small batch dark spirit, handcrafted using traditional methods. It is distilled and bottled in Bardstown, Kentucky – the Bourbon Capital of the World. Aged six years, 94-proof Rebellion Bourbon is produced from 70-72% corn and 28-30% rye and barley.
As of March 1, Market Street Spirits will begin importing Brinley Gold Shipwreck Rum. The Brinley family produces its award-winning, small batch Shipwreck Spiced and premium flavored rums — including Coconut, Mango, Coffee, and Vanilla — on the Caribbean island of St. Kitts. Shipwreck Spiced Rum was recently named “Favorite Caribbean Rum” in the 2013 About.com Readers’ Choice Awards., and Shipwreck Coconut Rum was rated 91 points (Exceptional) by Tastings.com (BTI) – the highest rating ever to be awarded to a flavored rum.
