The Giovanni Viberti 2019 Barbera d’Alba Superiore Bricco Airoli sources its fruit from old vines planted between 1950 and 1955. This wine delivers impressive results with dark concentration, very true and intense flavors and pretty aromas of pressed blackberry, spice and cured tobacco. This vintage is especially interesting in terms of fruit weight and texture.

The 2010 Barbera d’Alba Bricco Airoli is a soft and flush expression of the grape, its bright fruit tones backed by moist earth, pipe tobacco and leather. The bright acidity will easily cut through dishes with cheese or butter. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2015.

A burst of juicy cherry marks this smooth red, defined by the brisk acidity. Stays focused and long, as earth and tobacco accents chime in on the finish. Drink now through 2016.

Oak aging has smoothed the intensity of this barbera to a fat richness of texture. Scents of leather, coffee and earth take the lead for now, with the fruit in the background. Cellar this to let the oak recede and the fruit complexity come forward.

This is rich and lushly textured, providing a backdrop for the black currant, black cherry and spice flavors. Dense, lingering through the finish. Drink now through 2015.

A deep vein of black currant mines this red, along with a wild, feral note and hints of blood and iron. Yet there’s purity, with the juicy acidity typical of Barbera. The finish is long and tight. Drink now through 2013.
