Farnito Cabernet Sauvignon
The name Farnito is derived from a type of oak tree known as Farna found in the vicinity of the vineyards. Carpineto Farnito Cabernet Sauvignon is produced from estate-grown fruit. A full-bodied Super Tuscan, Carpineto Farnito is a rich expression of the Cabernet Sauvignon varietal boasting complex aromas of ripe red cherry with concentrated flavors of spice and licorice. Aged in French and American oak barrels for 12 months, the wine is structured with a vanilla note and big tannins marking the finish.

2018
Vinous - 90 pts
The 2018 Farnito Cabernet Sauvignon offers up a heady mélange of dark fruit, mocha, espresso, dried herbs, crushed flowers and spice. This Tuscan Cabernet has plenty to offer in a rich, full-bodied style.
Wine Enthusiast - 91 pts
Tar and graphite contrast with quiet but dense notes of dark berries and herbs on the nose of this Cabernet Sauvignon. The palate gets even juicier with berries, and more savory with camphor, grill smoke and peppery astringency. Tannins are coiled tight still and acid kicks back softly.
2016
Decanter - 91 pts
Toasty nose of roasted coffee beans and dark chocolate with ripe blackcurrant notes. Firm but ripe tannins, plump and tangy.
Decanter - 90 pts
Signs of development, with savoury tobacco and leather, dotted with blackcurrant notes. Bright and fresh with fine-grained tannin.
James Suckling - 94 pts
This is a solid cabernet sauvignon with a full body. The reserve tannins nicely frame the wine and give it plenty of currant and blackberry character with some sage and parsley undertones.
Wine Advocate - 92 ptss
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Farnito is a darkly saturated and penetrating wine that is not overextracted per se. It’s just really black in personality. The mouthfeel is polished and nicely evolved (tasted now eight years after the harvest) with blackberry, wild plum and raisin. There is a smoky mineral quality that fits with the finely textured tannins. This wine offers old school elegance.
Wine Enthusiast - 93 pts
The restrained, reduced nose on this wine offers tar, roses and coffee, with a certain freshness from wild fennel and wet rocks. The palate stays savory with more tar and rocks, but also dense fruit including figs, raisins, dark cherries and chocolate. Assertive tannins are propped up by similarly substantial acid.
Wine Spectator - 90 pts
Fragrant, featuring black cherry and black currant fruit at the center, with cedar and oak spice. Open, finishing with moderately dense, dusty tannins.
2015

The 2015 Farnito, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, is just starting to show the first hints of aromatic complexity that have developed in bottle. Tobacco, cedar, dried flowers, mint, licorice and espresso add pretty shades of nuance. Farnito is Cabernet that has become quite domesticated in that it is much a wine of Greve as anything else. I would prefer to drink it over the next decade, before the fruit dries out too much.
Wine Advocate - 92 pts
A nice red for some fatty andouille sausage on the grill, the Carpineto 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Farnito evenly covers the palate with rich phenolic weight and plenty of warm vintage, Tuscan fruit. The bouquet reveals layers of blackberry, plum, earth, grilled herb and campfire ember. Thanks to the luminous and warm character of this 2015 vintage, you taste those tangy Cabernet aromas here in full swing. There is some grip or texture on the tannins.
Wine Spectator - 94 pts
A core of cherry and black currant flavors is wrapped in spicy black pepper, toasty oak and iron notes, all supported by dense, pointed tannins and lively acidity. Offers a long, smoky finish. Enjoy this now for the fresh primary fruit, or let mature into more tobacco, leather and woodsy elements.

This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon opens with aromas of tilled soil, cedar, underbrush and a whiff of dark berry. The forward palate delivers ripe black currant, star anise and vanilla alongside close-grained tannins.
Wine Spectator - 90 pts
Smoky, with flavors of wild herbs, black currant and plum, this red takes on a salty note as the finish plays out. Balanced, if austere, with a lingering aftertaste.
2011
Wine Advocate - 91 pts
This wine is engineered for bistecca alla Fiorentina or succulent lamb chops. It needs a hearty, meaty food to break up that density and those firm tannins. This is a powerful and bold Cabernet Sauvignon (aged in oak for one year) from a warm summer growing season in Tuscany.
2010
Wine Spectator - 91 pts
Full of expressive black currant and blackberry flavors, this red is smooth, balanced and backed by a vibrant structure. The fruit echoes on the finish, along with earth and pepper accents. Drink now through 2022.

Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, this bottling really struts its stuff in the elegant 2006 vintage. It opens with intense and finely polished aromas of berry, lead pencil, brimstone, leather and black currant. It feels tight, crisp and firm on the finish. Give it another 5-10 years of cellar aging.
