Terra di Monteverro

Terra di Monteverro is a Cuvée with abundant aromas of fresh herbs, such as thyme and rosemary, balanced by black currants and sour cherry. Toasted notes of tobacco are accented by subtle mineral nuances. A velvety wine bursting with fresh black fruit on the entrance, followed by lingering touches of dark chocolate and cedar. Vinified in a combination of stainless steel and French oak, Terra di Monteverro ages in French oak barrels, 60% new and 40% second-use, for 20 months.

…offers plenty of depth and succulence in its up-front fruit and radiant, open-knit personality. Dark red cherry, plums, smoke, tobacco and licorice wrap around the fleshy, radiant finish. Drink this resonant, expressive Maremma red over the next few years. The Terra di Monteverro is a terrific introduction to the wines of the estate.

Aromas of bluish-black fruit, exotic spice and purple flowers lead the nose of this structured blend… The firm palate delivers dried black cherry, mint, sage, clove and espresso alongside ample, fine-grained tannins. A licorice note signals the close.

Decanter - Bronze Medal

Attractive mineral, savory fruit nose. Palate is quite extracted though well-knit and with lovely weight, dark ripe fruit, and tannin. Super long, and will age.

A blend of Bordeaux-based grapes, Terra di Monteverro shows youthful aromas of cherry, blackberry and cassis, backed by savory layers of spice, leather and tobacco. This is rich, smooth and powerful, and it will age for 10 years or more.

There’s a bright cherry flavor front and center in this intense, fruit-filled red. Dense and structured, with impeccable balance and supporting roles from herb and spice notes. The fruit- and spice-filled finish is terrific. Best from 2015 through 2023.

The 2008 Terra di Monteverro is a gorgeous wine layered with sweet dark plums, grilled herbs and spices, all of which flow effortlessly from a radiant, medium-bodied frame. I especially like the way the wine blossoms on the mid-palate and finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2018. Monteverro is one of the most exciting young properties I have come across in a while.

The vineyards are located in Capalbio, in the province of Grosseto. The estate was founded in 2003 by Georg Weber, a young [German] man inspired by the great wines of Bordeaux. The 2008s are the first releases from Weber’s superstar team, which includes Michel Rolland and Jean Hoefliger of Alpha Omega in Napa Valley. …these are all interesting wines. Prices are high for a debut vintage, but the investment required to make wines at this level is no doubt high as well.

This debut vintage shows green spice, black fruit, Greek olive and moist clay. It’s an impressive wine, with a thick and determined style.

This is ripe, jammy and sumptuous, bursting with blackberry, cassis, licorice and both salty and sweet elements. It’s hard to deny this red’s appeal and instant gratification. Best from 2012 through 2017.
